The latest ATO scam (Apr 2018)

I was speaking with a client this morning at a routine inspection and she told me about the latest ATO scam to hit her neighbourhood.

A group of people were door knocking properties in the street seeking information such as occupant full names, how long they have lived in the property, and if they owned the home.

When asked who they were, they said they were from the ATO and the information was required.

Do NOT give out personal information to anyone

The ATO do not

  • Door knock seeking private information.
  • Call you demanding money.

Call the police – Stay vigilant

Anyone asking you for this sort of information out of the blue is most likely a scammer. Report suspicious activity such as this to the Police. You can also report this to Scam Watch which is part of the ACCC.
